Players at National League club Gateshead FC have issued a statement hoping that September's unpaid wages are paid soon, as the club navigates a takeover by American investment company Flacks Group.

An agreement in principle has been reached for Flacks Group, which specialises in taking over distressed companies and assets, to buy the club. The proposed deal is subject to approval by the Independent Football Regulator and states that all unpaid wages would be paid immediately. However, as of Friday evening, the players had received nothing.

Statement from players

In their statement, the squad said: "Throughout this period, we have continued to train and play, risking injuries and our livelihoods out of love and respect for this club, for the staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes and above all for the supporters."

"Representing Gateshead FC is something we are proud of, and our commitment to the club, its supporters and the local community has not changed. But we hope that you can all appreciate that no one can go to work for free when they have bills to pay and families to support."

On-field troubles

The club is facing difficulties both financially and on the pitch. Gateshead have lost 10 of their 12 league games this season and are bottom of the table. The squad has also lost six consecutive games. Manager Lee Cattermole was sacked earlier in October.

September's wages also remain unpaid.
