Two Gateshead restaurants were honoured at the fifth North East Bangladeshi Awards, held at The Fed in Dunston on Tuesday 3 November.

Jashn, on Whickham Bank in Swalwell, took the Gateshead Restaurant of the Year title for the second year running. It also won the category at the 2025 awards. Nafiza’s, on Belle Vue Grove in Low Fell, received this year’s Highly Recommended Restaurant award.

The organisers said more than 450 people attended the ceremony, which brought together restaurant teams, business owners and community representatives from across the North East.

Moshfique Chowdhury Rabby, director of the awards, said: “Restaurants are an important part of our local communities. They create employment, bring people together and contribute to the character and diversity of our towns and cities.”

The North East Bangladeshi Awards began in 2022 to recognise the contributions of British Bangladeshi people, organisations and businesses. This year’s ceremony marked the fifth edition.
