Gateshead Football Club has failed to pay players and staff their wages for September, the club has confirmed.
The National League side are currently bottom of the league and have lost their past five games, conceding 16 goals and scoring just once.
Board Member Withdraws Funding
The wage payment crisis follows Mark Nellist's resignation from the board of directors earlier this week. Nellist withdrew his funding support for the club, stating that Gateshead was "not heading in the direction I would have liked or hoped for".
New Investment Search Underway
Interim chairman Graham Wood said the club is focused on securing new investment. "Following Mark Nellist's sudden decision to withdraw his funding support for the club we have been fully focused on seeking new investment," Wood said.
Wood added that significant progress had been made in the past 24 hours and the club was hopeful of making an announcement within a day or so. Nellist has agreed to make his shares available for a nominal sum to facilitate investment efforts.
